Grand Wagoneer by Classic Gentleman, leading buyer, restorer and seller of low mile, excellent condition Grand Wagoneers presents this handsome 1985 long time owned Hunter Green chariot with just 65,160 Actual Miles.

We often discover that many of our Wagoneer purchases have interesting histories and this low-mile with a limited # of owners gem has a story of faithful ownership. The original owner purchased the Jeep in North Carolina and it spent from new into 2020 in that southern mild winter state. From day one the Wagoneer was his pride and joy. We have his original notebook that shows every time he purchased gas, the number of gallons, and the mileage reading on that day. The Jeep was always garage kept and serviced and looked after with meticulous care until he passed away in 2004- the odometer showing just 54,xxx miles. The second owner was an employee who had admired the Wagoneer over many years and was able to acquire it upon the owner’s passing. He cared for the Grand in the same diligent manner and we have receipt after receipt from his fifteen years of ownership. Over those fifteen years only 10,000 miles were added. With his passing his daughter inherited the Jeep and she contacted us with the desire to have us purchase the Wagoneer and restore the ’85 to her “former glory” ….in his memory. We took her up on the kind offer and restored the Wagoneer in loving fashion for a client and she was enclosed shipped to their ocean vacation home.

Regrettably, they have not been able to get to the beach and this special Hunter Green has been sitting under cover and little used for the past 10 months with only 50 miles added to the odometer. Whilst they couldn’t be happier with the Grand, given they aren’t able to use her as they had hoped, she has been enclosed shipped back to us to find her next happy home.

The Carfax confirms her lifelong southern ownership (apart from our purchase when restoring her) Likewise the low 65,160 original miles are displayed clicking up slowly. (That is under 2,000 miles per year…remarkable). Lastly, no accidents ever reported against this Grand. That all equals a strong and sturdy frame and undercarriage.

The Hunter Green professional color conversion we organized here for this ’85 is indeed beautiful. Whilst Hunter Green is highly favored and most fashionable color for a Wagoneer today, it was not so much when these where first produced back in the 80’s. In fact, just a handful of Grands were ever factory produced in Hunter Green and as such, chances are you will never see one in person. Have a look at our website’s Restoration Page for details on how thorough our professional color conversion is. (Here is just 1 example, we even paint the metal floor underneath the new carpeting in Hunter Green). Along with the new paint, we have fitted new wood trim and wood siding on the exterior. Hunter Green works so well, playing off against the wood, no wonder it is such a hot color for us today. The front grill is also brand new and since nobody is presently making front grills for these, at least at the moment, a valuable option. The wheels have also been professionally refinished, and are wrapped with newly installed whitewall tires. The remaining exterior bits, including the bumpers, center wheel caps, and exterior chrome and aluminum trim pieces, whilst not new, remain in very good condition thanks to the low miles and southern ownership.

The honey leather interior that Grand Wagoneer fitted in the 1985 Grands is another reason why Hunter Green looks so lovely on the Grands. You have to go into the mid 80’s to get these rich looking honey interiors and this was also the last year for the traditional round Jeep dash gauges that traditionalists value. All of our Grands receive a freshening of the seats and new carpeting on the floors and cargo area sides and inner tailgate. Just the original factory carpet on the side door panels and on the back of the seating is left as those areas of course never receive any wear. New custom Grand Wagoneer floor mats are also provided to protect the new carpeting. Above the entire cabin we have fitted a new headliner. The working interior appointments include, power mirrors, power seats, power windows, power door locks, air conditioning, and a newly installed AM/FM/CD stereo with Bluetooth connectivity.

At Grand Wagoneer by Classic Gentleman, we often spend more time and monies looking after the mechanical and electrical needs of these Grands than all the cosmetic stuff you see on the outside wrapper. Our restoration works include the addition of MODERN FUEL INJECTION being fitted to all of our pieces, leaving the old carburetor on the shop floor. The fuel injection upgrade alone changes out many of the original factory parts including the throttle body mounting plate, electronic fuel pump, inline fuel filter and hoses, engine harness with OBDII data connector, oxygen sensor, electronic ignition module, electronic speed sensor, ignition wire set, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and chrome ignition coil.

We additionally replaced all 4 shocks, the muffler and exhaust pipe, Y pipe, power mirror switch, rear main seal, battery, alternator, starter, neutral safety switch, ignition switch, volt meter, fuel sending unit, thermostat, catalytic converter, upper & lower radiator hoses, belts for the alternator- power steering- a/c -air pump, a/c retrofitted to R 134, front motor mounts, headlamp bulbs, and on and on. The transmission is fully serviced along with the four wheel drive (High & Low setting) and ready for any weather.

Why buy from a Grand Wagoneer specialist?

Our entire focus is on Grand Wagoneers and we know these unique vehicles inside and out. When you purchase a Classic Gentleman Wagoneer it has been thoroughly inspected and works completed by professional mechanics, some with over forty years of Wagaoneer experience. We purchase fine example Jeeps from a variety of sources including other dealers and private parties. We are often told by the seller, “My Jeep is excellent and needs nothing” however, being in this profession, we know to expect and plan for a great deal of sorting. Remember the average age of these vehicles is over thirty years old and even with loving care many the cosmetics and mechanical parts have aged and worn accordingly. When a Classic Gentleman Grand Wagoneer arrives at your home, it is a special occasion and the Grand will be in beautiful condition. Yes, our sales are as-is, but as you will see from our detailed document files that your Grand has been looked after carefully. Our goal is to see that the joy and enthusiasm of Grand Wagoneer ownership begins immediately with your purchase and that it will be there for years to come.

Still, and here is the most honest paragraph you have perhaps ever seen from a restoration house/dealer, in some ways these Jeeps were terrible even when they were new. Sometimes we wonder if automotive engineering was more of a hobby with Jeep executives. For example, a Grand Wagoneer was the very last vehicle produced in America still fitted with a carburetor. The factory installing an ancient artifact like a carburetor to these Grands is a perfect example of Wagoneers being more primitive than other vehicles of the same model years. Now we automatically upgrade and modernize each of our Grands with MODERN FUEL INJECTION, eliminating the troublesome carburetor and therefore also eliminating the next owner having to constantly hector his local Jeep service advisor to adjust the carburetor. But, in most every other way, we can’t change the method these were built by the factory. In many respects the manufacturer used outdated technology and manufacturing methods and as a restorer, we will always be compromised by that circumstance. Did you know you can remove the front grill from a final year 1991 Grand Wagoneer and behind it still see the round cut out holes for the 1963 Jeep Wagoneer headlights? Those are just two examples above to illuminate the discussion. Therefore, please understand you will do more maintenance and servicing of a vintage Grand Wagoneer than a modern piece, even one we have restored. That is just a truth, fellow enthusiast. If you don’t have the un-excitability and tolerance for that, then let us say to you candidly, don’t buy one. But let us also remind you that it is indeed that old school style and looks of a Grand Wagoneer that have made them so ever popular today.

Be sure to have a look at our website’s recommendation page where you can see first hand the positive experiences of a worldwide assortment of named buyers. We deal honestly and work hard to insure a happy buyer. You will never be chased for a sale but given all the time needed to insure if a purchase is right for you. Guided by these principals, our modestly sized niche dealership has built a loyal and devoted customer base spanning 5 continents.
