Grand Wagoneer by Classic Gentleman, Internationally recognized as a leading buyer, restorer and seller of low mile excellent condition Grand Wagoneers, presents a returning Classic Gentleman alumni, this 1989 Dark Baltic Blue Metallic with just 58,840 miles!

This very special alumni low mile piece isn’t one of our new frame off restorations with a newly remanufactured engine, rebuilt transmission, all newly reupholstered seating and so on, but-there still has been a great deal of recommissioning works sorted and organized to her benefit. Both when we initially restored her 2,000 miles ago and her refreshments just carried out here. Read on, fellow Wagoneer enthusiast….
Let’s keep highlighting the best part here, the low, low 58,840 miles accumulated on our handsome Wagoneer. Remarkable isn’t it? Not uncommon for a 40 year old convertible to have low miles as many of them led lives that were based around a short summer season or weekends only. But a super low mile 4 wheel drive SUV is a completely different matter as people purchased these to use and to be used daily. This vintage Wagoneer travelled, on average, only 1,600 miles per year. Carfax confirms not only the low miles but likewise no accidents were ever reported against our Baltic Blue.

We formerly restored this special piece for a Louisiana businessman back in 2015. He added around 1,000 miles to her and when he rang us up in 2021 to see if we were interested in purchasing her back, we enthusiastically took him up on his offer. We sold her again 3 years ago to a client who had a vacation home at the #1 destination for vintage Wagoneers…..Wait for it……………. Nantucket. They have now sold their Nantucket home and without further need of the Wagoneer, she has rebounded back to us, like a homing pigeon. Given she was living on a small island, at a summer home, she likewise travelled under 1000 miles in those last 3 years.

Still, even with ultra low miles, the clock touches everything and we have given her the refreshing, she deserves. The Nantucket sun exposure on the original paint showed some light fading and so, we repainting the exterior in the factory original color of Dark Baltic Blue Metallic. Likewise we have fitted new vinyl woodgrain siding inside the factory original wood trim. We almost next to never are able to keep the original factory exterior wood trim but given this Grand’s super low miles, that trim remains in very good condition and we elected to keep it.

The wheels were refinished just 2,000 miles ago and are still in solid form. The whitewall tires have under 1,000 miles on them and were fitted just 3 years ago. The center wheel caps, bumpers, front grille frame and the balance of the exterior chrome bits, whilst not new, still show in very good condition thanks to the low miles.
By the same token, the sand color interior remains in beautiful condition, down to the circumstance that she has been used so sparingly. The leather on the seats has just been recoated and the seat’s fabric inserts, professionally cleaned. We replaced the headliner and all the floor carpeting, along with the carpeting on the cargo area floor, sides and interior tailgate, 2,000 miles ago during our previous restoration. The custom Grand Wagoneer floor matts are new.

We have gone over all the Wagoneers electrical & mechanicals, along with the 4 wheel drive system and she is updated and upgraded her with modern fuel injection. The old carburetors in these Jeeps are an ancient artifact that Jeep should have tossed out 40 years ago, when pretty much every other manufacturer did. Just to give you a sampling of the parts we replace just based on the fuel injection upgrade alone, they include a new throttle body, electric fuel pump, inline fuel filter with hoses, new engine harness, OBDII scan code reader, new oxygen sensor, electronic speed sensor, high performance ignition wire set, ignition coil, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and on and on.

Normal maintenance items including a new battery, oil and filter change for the engine, transmission service, brake service, a/c service, etc., have just been performed.
The undercarriage and frame have been cleaned and freshly treated with Eastwood rust resistant finish products. We have also installed a new exhaust and tailpipe, along with shocks. Brake works were also performed and a new spare tire fitted. In brief- she is prepped to head back out into the world and leave the Classic Gentleman carriage house, once again.
Why buy from a Grand Wagoneer specialist?

Our entire focus is on Grand Wagoneers and we know these unique vehicles inside and out. When you purchase a Classic Gentleman Wagoneer it has been thoroughly inspected and works completed by professional mechanics, some with over forty years of Wagoneer experience. We purchase fine example Jeeps from a variety of sources including other dealers and private parties. We are often told by the seller, “My Jeep is excellent and needs nothing” however, being in this profession, we know to expect and plan for a great deal of sorting. Remember the average age of these vehicles is over thirty years old and even with loving care many the cosmetics and mechanical parts have aged and worn accordingly. When a Classic Gentleman Grand Wagoneer arrives at your home, it is a special occasion and the Grand will be in beautiful condition. Yes, our sales are as-is, but as you will see from our detailed document files that your Grand has been looked after carefully. Our goal is to see that the joy and enthusiasm of Grand Wagoneer ownership begins immediately with your purchase and that it will be there for years to come.

Still, and here is the most honest paragraph you have perhaps ever seen from a restoration house/dealer, in some ways these Jeeps were terrible even when they were new. Sometimes we wonder if automotive engineering was more of a hobby with Jeep executives. For example, a Grand Wagoneer was the very last vehicle produced in America still fitted with a carburetor. The factory installing an ancient artifact like a carburetor to these Grands is a perfect example of Wagoneers being more primitive than other vehicles of the same model years. Now we automatically upgrade and modernize each of our Grands with MODERN FUEL INJECTION, eliminating the troublesome carburetor and therefore also eliminating the next owner having to constantly hector his local Jeep service advisor to adjust the carburetor. But, in most every other way, we can’t change the method these were built by the factory. In many respects the manufacturer used outdated technology and manufacturing methods and as a restorer, we will always be compromised by that circumstance. Did you know you can remove the front grill from a final year 1991 Grand Wagoneer and behind it still see the round cut out holes for the 1963 Jeep Wagoneer headlights. Those are just two examples above to illuminate the discussion. Therefore, please understand you will do more maintenance and servicing of a vintage Grand Wagoneer than a modern piece, even one we have restored. That is just a truth, fellow enthusiast. If you don’t have the un-excitability and tolerance for that, then let us say to you candidly, don’t buy one. But let us also remind you that it is indeed that old school style and looks of a Grand Wagoneer that have made them so ever popular today.
